Is the art institute a good school for culinary arts?

Saturday, December 12th, 2009
shawna asked:

I live in Michigan and cannot relocate. the only school I think here is the Art Institutes in Novi (detroit) I have read mixed reviews and this location opened last year. I don’t really have a choice as far as schools since this is the only one. I guess I just would like opinions. Has anyone attended any of the locations? What did /didn’t you like about them? Thanks in advance!

Will it help if I submit an art portfolio to colleges even though my major isn’t related to art?

Sally Park asked:

In other words, can it help my chances in getting accepted?
If I prepared an art portfolio, I thought it can reflect my talent/abilities.
I’m planning to apply USC perhaps.
Also, how important are the SAT I and community serviceI?

Is it good to bring a computer to art school?

Monday, October 12th, 2009
EricaVee asked:

I’m going into my senior year of high school and I’m very set on going to an art college and studying graphic design. I need a new computer anyway so I’m switching to the Mac to both familiarize myself with it and hopefully bring it to college.

So I want to know: Is it even practical to bring my computer to art school? I’ve looked up computer requirements at some of the schools I’m looking at and they mostly say that students aren’t required to bring one because they already have them there. But is it a good idea to have my own anyway? And if so, is it better to have a laptop or desktop?
Please no “DON’TSWITCH 2 TEH MAC APPLE SUX” because that has nothing to do with my question.

What colleges aren’t art schools, but have a reputation as ‘artsy’?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009
KJG asked:

I’m looking into colleges now and i’m stumped as where to find an ‘artsy’ school that isn’t an art school. I’m still between psychology and art/photography as a major so i want a school with an artsy feel on campus and a good art program, but a good psych program as well. This has posed as quite difficult. If anyone has any suggestions i would love to hear them. (Oh and i’m looking in the northeast/mid-atlantic areas.) Thanks a lot!

What do you need to teach college level art?

humblestumble S asked:

I am taking studio art in college right now and a professor is trying to get me to become a teacher. I don’t know what I would need to teach at college level. Would I need to follow the art education curriculum? Or just continue on the path I am on and get my masters? If I teach, I may end up teaching animation, but I love the fine arts too.

What art colleges lean towards conservatories, or vice versa?

Sunday, December 7th, 2008
Derek F asked:

I am a musician who wants to major in music theory. All the conservatories ask for talent performers, which I am not. I am a good composer and would love to have a career in theory (like a teacher). Of the art colleges I have looked at, some lack the music oreintated edge conservatories have.
By art college, I mean liberal art college.
