Your portfolio should include a variety of your art work with different mediums. Have some drawings, paintings and online design. Make sure that each piece is protected in either a tracing paper cover or a plastic sleeve. Organize them in a clean portfolio. Be prepared to explain each design. What the purpose of the project was, how you approached it creatively and how you rendered it. Then tell how you felt the piece was successful. The big no-no is to put down your own work and make excuses such as “I would have changed this had I the time” or “This looks a bit messy in the corner but my brushes were dry.” Basically, be prepared to really sell yourself and your work. Express your interest and passion for design. Tell them what you are interested in focusing on. Interviewers don’t like it when people say they’ll do anything because it shows a lack of commitment, passion and direction.
Good luck!
